II International Conference ART TECH MEDIA 09 " Innovation, Networks & New Media at the Culture & Social Development

Main Aims

Living in a technologically advanced society allows us to discover solutions to a myriad of problems but it also forces us to reflect upon the various questions that concern the globalised world. Only a small elite seem to understand the secret code of what is occurring. The inexistence of a conceptual, aesthetic or even ideological framework to clearly define where art is currently placed, means that we need to reflect both on art practice and its interpretation. Today, more than ever, a wider collaboration is needed between the art world, research centres, universities, technology companies and governmental institutions in order to ensure that their results have a direct impact on society, making it possible to implement the Knowledge Society across a wide area. This does not only affect the art world, however, but has penetrated and influences all of society: the economy, educational curricula, cultural policy making, social relationships, and the possibility to become globally visible. The problem of adapting to this new opportunity is shared by most countries and societies. We have a great opportunity to be at the vanguard of ideas maintained through education, promoting an innovative industrial fabric through digital culture.

Ideas are what move the world. Therefore, the Conference will offer the opportunity to debate on those aspects of greatest relevance that will allow us to advance in the future, by designing innovative proposals.

Art and culture will bring added value and sense to society's use of new technologies.

Society as a whole will be the focal point in the debates, how to incentivise its participation in knowledge and development of art, innovation, and digital culture for all.

The Conference will form a bridge between its partnering institutions and the most relevant technological, artistic and social organisations in the world.

Social and intercultural dialogue and the citizens' participation in decision-making.

Establish real support mechanisms for different cultures and their cross-cutting relationship through ICTs. Make the creative and social use of new technology media more widespread.

Promotion of solidarity, social cohesion and the participation of individuals wishing to be at the centre of public life, listened to and taken notice of, thereby avoiding the technology gap.

Presentation of a Strategic Plan for the Development of the Arts, Innovation and Digital Culture, including the creation of a Global Public and Professional Network for Art, Science, Innovation, Technology, Business and Institutions involving the main agents from the sector both nationally and internationally.

Opportunities for cultural and economic innovation for all society.

Promotion of digital creativity, especially from Spain, through specific calls. A selection will be exhibited in various spaces around the city of Barcelona.
