Aker Wiley New Orleans. USA Proyecto: Thy Glad Beams In this video piece I am drawing from footage created during recent conflicts, most of it recorded from U.S. or 'coalition' aircraft. This footage was created using public funds and as such where it is not classified, it is made freely available to the public through various archives such as the Defense Video and Image Distribution System created by the U.S. military's Defense Media Activity. In this work videos are placed one atop the other creating undulating unified landscapes; axes of time and space that are meticulously indexed in the source archive are here collapsed into a simultaneous and continuous plane. The formal qualities of the pieces serve to distract from the content of the source material, creating an oscillating condition of apprehension and misapprehension. This echoes American society's relationship with endless war as background noise; even when you seem to grasp a whole, the specificity and context of any given image remains elusive. tag: videoart |

Wolff Or Proyecto: Olympia A documentary Film which was filmed and directed by Lenny Rifnstahl, documents the Berlin Olympics in 1936. Rifnstahl, film director and a German photographer, known for cold, clear aesthetic in her films using the sports world sterile. Didactic project and researcher in various scenes in the movie presents an analysis of movement, composition, camera angles and various ingredients used by Rifnstahl. The primary research tool is an abstraction of the scene, and the goal is to examine how to summarize the scene, but not lower its strength. The study aims to discover and understand the components and visual film making, which were made by Rifnstahl and influence us today. In penetrating look deeper, we realize that the film qualities comes from the ideology of cold and cruel culture, and the fact that a work so perfect, clean and impressive reached from these places, make the piece more powerful to the viewer tag: videoart |

Takayuki Yoshida Tokyo. Japón Proyecto: Ponpoko Mountain A Romanian sculptor, Constantin Brancusi, once said: "who is no longer a child is no longer an artist". A "ponpoko mountain" is an air playground equipment of white color, which is set at a park in Japan. It is a trampoline like a snow mountain and children are playing on its top. This video work expresses a "harmony" between the color of white and children in the unique landscape where there are domed curves, by using a combination technique of moving and still images. Although nature creates sensual curved lines while humans create inflexible straight lines, the curve lines of this playground equipment are created by humans and they attract me. It is also an homage to the Robert Flaherty's documentary film "Nanook of the North", which expresses a "harmony" between the white color of snow field and children of Inuit in the landscape where there are domed curves of igloo. It is a scene, I believe, that has been long forgotten in the history of moving image. tag: videoart |
