Ori Elisar Project: Untitled For my final thesis at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, I develoed a method of researching visual aspects of language, while growing letters in petri dishes. To do so I developed an ink based on a biological matter. The ink was created using Paenibacillus vortex bacteria, which explores the interactions between nature and culture. This ongoing project also explores the developing states of the Hebrew language and the Hebrew character. Using my research, experiments and results, I am hoping to question nature, culture, character and language with some new theories of my own. tag: bioart |

Kim, Raphael Project: Microbial Mone
Microbial Money looks at possible roles of technology and micro-organisms in shaping our socio-economy, narrated partly through hands-on biological experimentation and scenario building. Could microbes be designed to create an alternative model for the economy, who would use them, and what are the potential conflict that may arise as a result? Nature and biological patterns have long been associated with superstition and fortune telling. Micro-organisms, such as bacteria, may also have potential roles in these rituals, with their ability to make seemingly logical decisions that we do not fully comprehend. The project zooms in on a story of financiers and their interaction with the biohacking community: Driven by competition and economic downturn, they seek ways to gain advantage in the stock market through help of a mysterious biohacker who uses microbial cells to forecast fluctuations in the market. tag: bioart |

Charlotte Biszewski Bristol http://rustysquid.org.uk/ Project: Moth
What is our instinctual reaction to an upturned insect? What is the intrigue with its moving mechanisms on show? Do we feel intrigue or repulsion to the movements of this vulnerable creature? What would invoke us to stop and assist? Lying on its back, legs flailing helplessly, the mechanical moth will play with how we react to our instincts of empathy and care. The project consists of creating an interactive moth which responds to its handler, instilling different emotional interactions with its audience. The moth is the size of a basketball, and could be picked up, passed around and handled. The moth becomes more interactive and the wings of the body begin to unfold. The installation will create a shared experience for the audience. Handling of the moth will evoke emotions of uncertainty, intrigue and humour, uniting a group response and encouraging reactions between the participants. It would be a thing which is both aesthetically beautiful, using applications of paper folding, printing tag: robotic |

Metagrey
Port of Spain., Trinidad
Project: Metagrey
What are feelings? What are emotions? What are fear, love, attraction, sadness, happiness, excitement? Can a machine via code and electronics experience these? Can our own feelings and emotions be reduced to our own human code and circuitry? Can a machine like or dislike a person? Do robots need to resemble their creators for us anthropomorphize them? Should machines be built without purpose to be set free to roam? Does less control equate to more personality? |

Suguru Goto Paris. France http://suguru.goto.free.fr/Contents2/Dualiver.2/Dualiver.2-e.html Project: Duali The inspiration for this work is based upon the idea of performance within the context of new media, dance, music, and images. Conversely, it really belongs to no style. The gesture controlled sensors and other continuations, such as WiFi and specialized programming are originally developed. Utilizing this, the work explores the extension of the potentialities in the relationship of man and machine. This performance specifically exploits the interaction between the body of the performer and video images, and the body of the performer and the architectural/lighting imagery on stage, which the performer can manipulate in real-time with his BodySuit Suguru Goto: Artistic Direction, Concept, Music, Programming, Development of BodySuit Chiharu Otake: BodySuit I Performance, Dance Mamoru Sakata: BodySuit II Performance, Dance Laurent Forgues: Technical Assistant « Duali » is awarded for a Honorary Mention by the Digital Musics & Sound Art of Prix Ars Electronica tag: robotic |

Jean-Michel Rolland Project: Interactive Vjing Vjing by Jim Rolland is highly innovative : the images he projects are programmed on Processing and are manipulated in real time on the music of the artist he plays with. But it's above all an immersive Vjing where interactivity plays a key role by giving the sound control on the image : the projected forms only exist and evoluate in space thanks to the decibels received by the algorithms of the program. tag: data visualization |

María Castellanos y Alberto Valverde Project: Environment Dress (backpack)
