Project: Volver

Project: Despedida

Jaque Jolene, a character who embodies celebrity and decadence, gets ready to a new beginning on this video. Without losing the glamour, provided by the technology of psychotropic drugs and cosmetics, she says goodbye to an old phase. She closes the windows, turns off the lights, preparing for change. With champagne and antidepressants, parties and hangovers, she closes the door and resolutely enters the elevator. Go

Project: Before my country has been developed

This video work is followed by the narrations excerpted from the novel Bumi Manusia (This Earth of Mankind) by an Indonesian author Pramoedya Ananta Toer. It tells about Japanese prostitution in Surabaya between the late 19th century and the early 20th century. At that time lots of Japanese poor girls went abroad including many parts in Southeast Asia to look for jobs. Most of them were tricked and forced to work as prostitutes by agents. They are called karayuki-san and sometimes talked as just a sad or ashamed story before Japanese country became a developed country. It's surely a sad story, because most girls died before they get 20 years old etc. However, as some researchers indicate money girls earned has dedicated to make Japanese country stronger when the government aimed to become a capitalistic country, even though girls couldn't get money for themselves that much. I believe this hidden story could be told from the different viewpoint and discussed more as to think the women rights, and even it could be related to the current society. Regarding images, footage is taken on the streets used to be brothel areas and at Japanese cemeteries in Singapore and Surabaya, Indonesia.

Project: Inside

What's "Inside"? It is an experimental project, a dreamlike journey that will lead you through the maze of the human mind. A dark place, uncanny, where lie the fears, the ambiguous and where the strangest visions come to life in a scenario in continuous transformation where the unraveling of the inevitable questions arise to the attention of the events by breaking the balance of logic and concrete.
