Theo Tagholm Project: Simulacra Today abstraction is no longer that of the map, the double, the mirror, or the concept. Simulation is no longer that of a territory, a referential being, or a substance. It is the generation by models of a real without origin or reality: a hyperreal. The territory no longer precedes the map, nor does it survive it. It is nevertheless the map that precedes the territory – procession of simulacra – that engenders the territory, and if one must return to the fable, today it is the territory whose shreds slowly rot across the extent of the map. It is the real, and not the map, whose vestiges persist here and there in the deserts that are no longer those of the Empire, but ours. The desert of the real itself." Tina Sulc Project: Illusion of Hydrosphere Sphere water covers a large part of our world. So big that you can imagine in the illusion of the moment as a separate sphere, which overwhelms the world as a multidimensional reality merges with it, both inside and outside. Is one. tag: videoart |

Tobias Gaede Fortaleza. Brazil Project: Becoming a White Cube The work concerns the "potentiality of being" in contraposition to "what actually is". The cube is both a fundamental abstract conceptual entity as well as an exemplar element of concrete spatialization. Here we ask ourselves about what is between these two features that the cube presents. "Becoming the White Cube" shows what would be the arché (in the pre-Socratic sense) of the devices of electronic image generation: RGB. In the work, the pulses in red, green and blue are accelerated and the visible color becomes progressively closer of an illusion of white, though it never come true. In the work there is a discussion about the volumetric space in contrast to the flattened image of the video and the immaterial character of the mathematical cube. Two screens are placed perpendicularly in a suggestion of complementarity, with two orthogonal axes. The volume of an imaginary cube appears only by the subjectivation of what is presented. tag: videoart |

Waghela Tushar My son plays with his toys --- lions, tigers and snow bears. Somewhere out there, he believes, there exist real forests with all these wild species. Would these forests remain when he reaches my age? Every two seconds, we lose almost the area of a football ground of our primeval forests to deforestation, mining and climate change. |

Aker, Wiley Project: Cataract In this video piece I am drawing from footage created during recent conflicts, most of it recorded from U.S. or 'coalition' aircraft. This footage was created using public funds and as such where it is not classified, it is made freely available to the public through various archives such as the Defense Video and Image Distribution System created by the U.S. military's Defense Media Activity. In this work videos are placed one atop the other creating undulating unified landscapes; axes of time and space that are meticulously indexed in the source archive are here collapsed into a simultaneous and continuous plane. The formal qualities of the pieces serve to distract from the content of the source material, creating an oscillating condition of apprehension and misapprehension. This echoes American society's relationship with endless war as background noise; even when you seem to grasp a whole, the specificity and context of any given image remains elusive. tag: videoart |
