The Japan Media Arts Festival has been an annual event since 1997. Its aim is to promote the creation and development of media arts.The Festival highlights creative works of art, entertainment, animation, and manga. At the same time, it also presents a broad range of creative activities.
The festival is held in February at the National Art Center, Tokyo annually. As part of the festival, in order to make a much wider audience aware of the excellence works from the Japan Media Arts Festival,we request festivals and museums here and abroad to exhibit or screen them. So far, we have collaborated and materialized events with SIGGRAPH (USA) and Annecy International Animation Festival (France) overseas as well as in Japansuch as Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum, the International Animation Festival Hiroshima and so on.This year, we would like to make the opportunity for the collaboration to screen the works from the12th JMAF. Moment – performatives spazieren
TAGUCHI YUKIHIRO
Floorboards in a gallery are torn up from the floor and propped up neatly against the wall. Then those floorboards move out of the window into the city of Berlin. The floorboards combine in various ways, lining up or crawling forward, depending on which part of the city they are in. The artist took around 2,500 pictures of floorboards arranged in various ways and made those photos into an animation.

When letters are written by hand, lines gather on the paper. Lines are drawn by hand, figures turn around. Unique algorithm between the movements of hand and figures provide answers gradually. This is a turned-in story using the rule and regulation.

A landscape shoot by video camera are printed out to several thousands
papers per frame.The printed materials are piled up in real space and shoot astime-lapse motion picture. And then, the motion of those papers becomeanimation.

CARBON FOOTPRINT

A depiction of a discarded can lying in the street, and gradually corroding.
Exquisite CG techniques are used, and the realistic visual expression is captivating. It also effectively conveys a strong message about an environmental issue, in that it takes only a moment for us to decide not to recycle a can, but it would take 50 years for nature to do what we neglected to.

The Music Video of Jemapur. This is a geometric visual journey in Tokyo. In response to the musician's impression of the track feeling like“moving forward through a door,only to find oneself back in the same place again” using Tokyo's daily visual patterns symmetrically.

Characters are running on a stage with reality. Using unique technique, the atmosphere of a real live performance and humor are created in this film.
