Transmediale, a leading international festival for art and digital  culture presents advanced artistic positions reflecting on the socio- cultural impact of new technologies. It seeks out artistic practices  that not only respond to scientific or technical developments, but  that try to shape the way in which we think about and experience  these technologies. transmediale understands media technologies as  cultural techniques which need to be embraced in order to comprehend,  critique, and shape our contemporary society. The festival includes  exhibitions, competitions, conferences, film and video programmes,  live performances, a publication series called 'transmediale  parcours', and hosts the transmediale Award and the Vilem Flusser  Theory Award, major prizes for excellence in digital arts practice  and critical theory. transmediale is also a collaborative partner  with club transmediale (CTM), which focuses on electronic music and  club culture.

Or the video selection programme of transmediale.09, we deliberately chose works that differ strongly in the way they were produced. Consequently, these videos give a wide-ranging insight into current artistic video production in form and content.
