Alexander Senko Moscow.. Russia http://www.acousticimages.net/ https://vimeo.com/user9534871 Project: Up and Away The visuals consists of the background and figures. Figures are created by and interact with the background - architectural forms of the new building of the Bauhaus University Library [Weimar, Germany]. The Fourier resynthesis allows every moving object to create its own frequency band. The work is made in real-time programming environment Pure Data and can be shown either as a video film or as a real-time performance. tag: generativeart |

Guang Zhu New York. USA www.guangless.com https://vimeo.com/guang Project: An Aquarium of Equations This series of large format prints are heavily influenced by my research into the history of mathematics and the explorations on parametric equations. The visual structure are generated by the mathematical equations that I designed. Those whimsical abstract simulations attempt to communicate from my mystic imaginations of the mathematical formulas that have the lives of their own. tag: generativeart |

Hugo Martínez-Tormo Valencia. |

Jockel Liess London. UK http://www.jockelliess.org/greenmeadow.htm https://www.dropbox.com/sh/x2v8m8lqmhx39h5/ AAAt_Si7IT833d51edSPCt1Xa Project: Green meadow ‘Green meadow’ is a generative audio-visual work modelled on the behavioural patterns and progression of physical environments and their unpredictable self-similarity. The often soothing and hypnotic sensory power of naturally occurring systems, such as the repetitive crashing of waves on a shoreline, the rhythmic drumming of rain on varying surfaces or the simultaneous rustling and creaking of trees in the midst of a forest, are aesthetic variations of the same underlying chaotic structures. The reoccurring of the micro event in succession or seeming parallel, however never as a reproduction of the preceding but rather as an adaptation of the same, thus determines the organic attractiveness of such environmental sound cluster or visual spectacles. ‘Green meadow’, in its compositional variation, concerns itself with the texture and density of the moment, rather then the arrangement of its past or future. Like its natural prototypes the artistic construct is non-durational, or without a time line. Individual events, progression and change within the work are stimulated by the interplay and cross-influence of its individual components. This means, the currently occurring audio-visual events interact continuously to determine their own future. As an abstraction of reality ‘green meadow’ thereby strives to represent the improvisational freedom of nature, and can be seen as a form of organic compositions. tag: softwareart |

Juan Escudero Gijón. Spain Project: Variations on the bird and the snow A classical problem in mathematics is about the maximal number and type of singularities, that a surface described by a polynomial of a given degree may have. This work is based on recent research in algebraic geometry concerning nodal and other kinds of singularities. The interest of this explorations in the arts starts only when an anti-genealogy emerges. The project title may be regarded also as an allusion to a collection of essays by the spanish poet José Ángel Valente. tag: softwareart |

Deep-Bass sounds and full color scenes, that will hit again a live set that spares no errors and invites remix. "There are things that are drawn in the air and others here. Is not smoke, because it has color, and everything appears when you want. Why jump? Because it's evolutionary asymmetry." tag: generativeart |

Martin Reiche Berlin. Germany www.martinreiche.com Proyecto: World Mountain Machine The World Mountain Machine shows architectural morphology as a historical process and translates it into a visual language. The spectator is offered a view of a process that develops over the course of the whole exhibition: A world mountain [a mythological expression of world “as it is” in its cosmic order in form of a concrete architecture] is created that transcends through different stages of evolution based on the sensory input coming from the venue of the exhibition and methods derived from computational biology and fractal geometry. The spectator thus becomes the active participant of the evolution of the architecture that is presented to him while at the same time he is only displayed a snapshot of the whole development. The work highlights the ephemeral nature of a historical process while at the same time creating an abstract mathematical model for process morphology throughout the exhibition. It shows the ongoing development of the architecture that will be completed on the last day of the exhibition. |

Parag Mital Hanover, NH. USA http://pkmital.com Project: YouTube SmashUp For 5 weeks, I took the top 10 videos of YouTube and resynthesized the #1 video using the remaining 9 videos. I aimed to continue until one of the smashups ended up in the top 10. However, despite their abstract nature, most smashups were the subject of copyright violations. The process, “Smash Up”, learns tiny perceptual fragments of video using a computational model of perception. The process is not copying the file, but synthesizing it from entirely different material. This work attempts to highlight the nature of what can and cannot be copyright-able, as algorithms become increasingly more intelligent. |

Román Torre Barcelona. Spain http://www.romantorre.com https://vimeo.com/82300560 Proyecto: LIFEFLOOR Lifefloor is an immersive and interactive installation based on the Game of Life, which is the most well-known cellular automaton (mathematical simulations of intelligent cellular systems) created by the british mathematician John Horton Conway in 1970. This algorithm is used by scientists, mathematicians or economists as a simulated example of self-organization and for the development of complex systems through the implementation of simple rules. It has the power of a Turing machine; that is, anything that can be computed algorithmically can be computed within Conways’ Game of Life. |

ZIL SILVER LIGHT is made with a variety of techniques. ZIL created the film with smooth, formal, abstract forms by multi-layer editing including animations of Vince McKelvie which can be seen in combination with the music of Zoy Winterstein. The abstraction is the main aspect in the video. The core content of this work is nature, elements, the divinity and the infinity. Life is always moving forward, always changing-the animated torus which appears in the middle of the video symbolizes this infinite force that constantely flows and creates all life surrounding it in an abstract way. |
