“A look at what surrounds us” A visual dialogue by www.elmur.net Perception is the organization, identification, and interpretation of sensory information in order to represent and understand the environment. Perception is not the passive receipt of sensory signals, but is shaped by learning, memory, expectation and attention. Therefore, every image is not only seen but perceived and interpreted. “A look at what surrounds us” presents a series of videos that reflect around what we see, how we see it and how it can be interpreted. From shapes to expectations, veils and masquerades, to hidden and invisible realities. Nine pieces that talk about us as individuals, as citizens and as human beings which immersed in the information and communication era, overloaded by visual stimulus, might have been blinded and even shaped by false appearances. Who are you? What are you doing here? Where are we going? WWW.ELMUR.NET ELMUR.NET is a participatory project which builds an intercultural dialogue in audiovisual format in order to cultivate our imagination and critical and creative eye. Citizens inspire citizens with ideas, moments, visions and perspectives which help us to reflect around human values. Best video proposals are displayed in public spaces and cultural events around the globe and also disseminated through the digital universe and social networks creating a digital and analogue inspirational network. Add your voice at www.elmur.net ELMUR.NET is a non-profit cultural project by Fundación Ferreruela Sanfeliu and Asociación Cultural TripleZeta. |

"HERMENEUTICS" Alexei Dmitriev Russia Hermeneutics is the art of explaining or interpreting. Images tend to be presented as truths that describe a certain interpretation of reality. Hermeneutics of Alexei Dmitriev, invites us to reflect on this issue. The title of the piece provides a starting point from which to observe. After the first scenes, the viewer can begin to perceive that something is hidden behind obvious images. In fact sometimes, first impressions can be wrong. Are we looking at a war film or what is been shown is just spectacle? |

TORRENT Christel Liebenberg South Africa Torrent confronts us with a simple daily scene which by means of visual effects, is converted into a meaningful visualization of the secondary effects of the overload of media images. As its author states “ in this video I allude to our habitual intake of information and I attempt to raise questions regarding our ability to process and internalize large quantities of low quality and excessive information”. Christel Liebenberg places a clear question on top of the table: am I what I see or do I see what I am? |

iTOUCH Ivan Veermäe Estonia This piece deals with the notions of “smart technology” gaining more and more presence in lives of the people and their environments. The gadgets and screens become almost self-explanatory. The technological objects seem to become more personalized, but the whole body-object interaction sets are defined by the objects design and interface. |
