Project: The Home
The home where we live is also a home to billions of living beings.
They might remain out of our vision, their sounds and signs
continuously register their presence before us. We believe ourselves to
be the owner of our apartments and push them away from our kitchen and
courtyard. Barely do we realise that much before we came into existence
this planet has been their domicile for billions of years, our
apartments are just a tiny corner of their vast habitat.

Project: Transmission ring
Self-distributed
summary: Transmission ring explores overlooked moments in city
environments, reclaiming potentially missed signals within our
'noise'-filled environments. Acknowledging and embracing the unique
interactions that take place between movement/ vision and sound/
vibration, this film occurs between the signals, objects and bodies
that are located amongst city spheres. Viscerally connecting us to a
cityscape we are perhaps unaware of, the images of this film travel
through and amongst flesh, mechanics, communicative signals and ideals
of beauty. Whilst the sounds, sourced from electronic, electro-optical
& electromechanical devices such as radio towers, power stations,
telegraph wires, neon lights, microwaves and mobile phones, reference
the electromagnetic spectra of our cities. Transmission ring is part of
an audiovisual collaboration between two Australian artists based
abroad. London based artist Katrina Stamatopoulos and Vancouver based
artist Alexandra Spence navigate notions of geographical identity
coinciding with a globalized existence. It is part of an ongoing
project that explores the delicately complicated link between sound and
the moving image.

Project: São Paulo - Belém
São Paulo - Belém is a single channel video part of the series Spaces of Failure.
It is a multimedia project done from fails of panoramic photographs
taken with a mobile phone. Each image is composed of about fifty
photographs post processed by apps to capture panorama, which make use
of artificial intelligence algorithms in order to rebuild the linear
geometry of the photograph in one image only.
Instead of following the instructions to obtain a “good” panorama, I
test the limits of those algorithms, which end up fitting some things
in the wrong places. From this impingement between the unexpected use
and the program, boisterous, discontinuous and lacunar landscapes
arise, which invite us to think about the role of technologies in the
ways that we build, we perceive and we represent the spaces that
surround us.
The series brings together images shot in urban centers from different
regions of the country, encompassing from icons of Brazilian’s modern
architecture to places where the modern project comes up against the
limits imposed by the socio-economic disparity, by the immensity of the
natural forces, by the cultural differences, which allows to highlight
the heterogeneity of enrolled becomings in spatiality of cities.

Project: At Thirty, the Party Was Over
At
Thirty, the Party Was Over is a response to the contemporary poetry of
South Korea. The title refers to a poem by Choi Young-mi.
Everything in Seoul, Korea seems to talk to you, elevators, escalators,
tollbooths, crosswalks and rice cookers. One history also speaks to
another, tourists with Samsung cell phones populate a ninth century
temple while camera crews at another historic site film a program about
a 15th century palace.
The past speaks through the present as a monthly civil defense drill
reminds us of a state of war. A Japanese postcard recalls the
thirty-five years of colonization of Korea by Japan. The present speaks
to the past telling it that the city of Gwangju will not be forgotten.
In At Thirty, the Party Was Over a restaurant is emptied to make room
for the memories of all that happened and the songs to be completed at
the next party

Project: Dammtor
Dammtor
de Keele University – Research Institute for the Humanities. D
