Athens Video Art Festival is an International Festival of Digital Arts and New Media held annually in Athens, Greece. Since 2005 the Festival has been attended by over 100.000 visitors and has attracted more than 8.500 artists from 58 countries to submit 14.500 works. In Athens Video Art Festival are being presented different types of artistic expressions and mediums. Video art is an art form with communicative, educational and entertainment characteristics. Beyond the common optical frames of communication and functionality, such as the depictions on television, on computer or the physical windows, video art assumes the role to reflect on the trends of modern times. Issues related to collectivism, consumerism, homogeneity of everyday life, human development, communication and perception are formed depictions in response to our present, and committed reviews of the past and statements for the future. Abstracted forms constructed either with digital mediums or through fragments and close up of physical states, personal and collective narratives which are milestones for modern society and additional subjective considerations for the present are formed this year’s video art programme. Frames and sounds travel around the globe, contributing to spatiotemporal compositions of modern society with the aim of representation and description. CHOROS Michael Langan & Terah Maher US A chorus of women are borne from the movements of a single dancer in this dreamlike pas de trente-deux. In the tradition of Marey and McLaren, Michael Langan and Terah Maher combine music, dance, and image multiplication to create a film that enhances our perception of motion. Bio: Michael Langan is an American experimental filmmaker. His films have screened at over a hundred film festivals worldwide garnering top awards, including a Student Academy Award nomination for "Doxology." Langan's innovation at the boundary of live action and animation hasbeen praised as "confounding and fascinating" by The New York Times and "inventive" by The Atlantic. He is an "IFC Icon" and was featured as one of "10 animators poised to become household names" by Variety. Terah Maher received a Masters of Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School and Design and has been teaching experimental animation in Harvard's Visual and Environmental Studies Department since 2006. Her design work investigates the potentials of constructing narrative experience within physical spaces. She has worked as production designer on internationally screened shorts, and designed many exhibitions, including “Frame by Frame, Animated at Harvard," at the Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts [2010]. Maher's film work, influenced by her years as a modern dancer, explores the structural systems inherent in animation processes in her efforts to extend the expressive potential of the human body. |

MEMORY TYPES Panagiotis Tomaras UK The Memory Tapes trailer creates an abstract dialogue emerged from the fragmentation of the movies that consists of. It seeks the boundaries of the filmic montage itself through a science fiction footages collage. It is about the collapsing of the narrative into imaginary feelings. Bio: Panagiotis Tomaras is a multidisciplinary artist making abstract and montage films, experimental photography, light installations and spatialized sound environments. Graduate of Photography and Audiovisual Arts department of Technological Educational Institute of Athens [GR] and post-graduate in Digital Arts and Film [MA] program of Athens School of Fine Arts [GR] and ArtScience Interfaculty [Mmus] program of Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, the Royal Academy of Art of The Hague and the Academy of Creative and Performing Arts of Leiden University [NL]. His projects investigating the visual medium and the sound experiences. He has commissioned for theater visuals, commercial teasers, motion graphics and has participated and awarded in a wide range of solo, group, national and international festivals, exhibitions and competitions. He lives and works in the Hague [NL] and Athens [GR]. |

SECTRAL PROMEDADE Neno Belchev Bulgaria This video discusses the role of the artist in the contemporary society. It does not present the artist as somebody, who walks together, or against the mainstream, but rather as somebody, who walks on his own path. On the other hand, the video aims to remind us, that very often we are observers of unexpected, unforeseen and extraordinary phenomenon, but we are so deep in our thoughts about everyday life, that we miss them. Bio: Born in 1971 in Varna, Bulgaria. Neno Belchev lives and works in Varna. He graduated in Mural Painting from the National Academy of Art in Sofia, Bulgaria. Works in the fields of video art, performance, installation, sculpture, new media as well as independent curator. He is one of the founders of the Videoholica International Video Art Festival in Varna, Bulgaria. He has participated in a wide range of solo and group, national and international exhibitions. He has been awarded artist in residence grants [AIR] in Russia, China, Japan and Portugal and awards from international video and film festivals in Russia, the Netherland and Austria. |

SLOPES Azahara Cerezo Spain www.azaharacerezo.com Slope is a experimental video series about the current recession through scenes shot in Northern Ireland [United Kindgom] and Madrid [Spain] and voices from the philosophers Slavoj Zizek, Michael Hardt and Judith Butler. Slope has been produced during 2012 and it is still an ongoing work. Bio: Azahara Cerezo graduated with a First Class BA Honours degree in Audiovisual Communication from the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 2010. In 2011 she graduated from the Polytechnic University of Valencia with a Master of Visual Arts and Multimedia. She has been participated in many international festivals and exhibitions. |

CalicoAlchemy is a short film depicting the layers of an ordinary man world. The box that surrounds his mind. The film became alive for the needs of a Greek organization that is based in U.S. that aims to become a spiritual center. They needed a promotional video and this is what we came up with. It was shot in Kapa Studios in Greece with the help of our friends. Bio: Director & post production compositor. Experienced in the artistic and commercial world of the Cinematographic industry with budgeting implementation and monitoring skills, cinematography knowledge, digital design and process on leading software. Worked for the last ten years with Greek and multinational production and advertising companies. Participated in award winning films and festivals. |

RECYCLES Anna Beata Barańska Poland The world is an arena of continuous events, conflicts and wars. Every day, in every country, we can hear hundreds of informations filtered through the media. News are often manipulated to serve a specific ideology. TV picture for the average viewer determinates current trends. The film is an expression of rebellion against the worthless content that can be seen in the most popular TV stations. TV picture is subjected to intentional manipulations, through consistent audio and video distortion. Disturbances initially are small but they gradually deform the image by reducing it to the multiplicated center line of RGB pixels in CRT TV, which is accompanied by classic music. Television then becomes an object of audiovisual art. All content is recycled and television broadcast becomes an abstract image, giving the field to open a multi-faceted interpretation. Bio: Born in 1981 in Iłża [Poland]. From 2001 to 2006 she studied Painting in the Faculty of Art Maria Curie-Sklodowska University in Lublin. She graduated under professor Jacek Wojciechowski and her diploma was awarded the Dean prize. She specializes in Painting, Video and Photography. In her works, she touches time passing issues as well as political, cultural and anthropological problems. She has been awarded several times included. She makes films with Michal Baranski. |

ORBIS
Grigoris Myrgiotis UK Orbis is an experimental audiovisual work which draws its influences from video clips, experimental cinema, documentary films and commercials. The piece’s ambiguity and abstract plot shift its reading to the viewer’s subjective inclination. With man and the influences that he gets from his everyday environment as its central axis, there is established a vibrating condition where one element of the piece contends with another to impose itself, while at the same time submitting itself to the composition, along with the other elements, so that a sense of balance, orbis, can be created new. Bio: Born on 1990 Gregory Myrgiotis is a Greek visual artist using video, sound and design as his main means of expression. In 2013 he graduated from the Fine Arts and Sciences of Art at the University of Ioannina, Greece. He is currently living and working in Greece. He has been participated in many festivals and group exhibitions. |
