Project: Fragmentation A random labyrinth is projected onto the stage, symbolizing the choices of our everyday life. The performer (a Butoh dancer) has to drive an avatar trough the labyrinth using only his brainwaves. The performance aims to expose to the public the difficulty to concentrate and total awareness of the performer. Through out the act, the music is generated by the mental process of the performer depending on the avatar's positions in the maze. The visuals are derived by the music and are projected onto the performer to close the feedback loop, and to further distract the performer in his struggle. The point of the whole piece is making something invisible (in this case the rational choices of the performer) into something visible for the audience. In this case i "materialize" three simple thougts of the performer that he uses to navigates in a video game. The audience can predict and obeserve the performer's choices and struggle. Music parameters are influenced by the performer's position in the virtual maze. tag: videogames |

Project: Targeting Eyes"Targeting Eyes" "Targeting Eyes" is a live game performance that explores the artist's cultural and gendered upbringing, where she was raised to avoid eye contact, to avert her gaze. This performance demonstrates her personal struggle in social spaces, revealing her anxiety, which creates diverse mixed reality states. This project playfully provides a game space with the goal of targeting eyes in First-person shooter (FPS) mode, using this game space as a strictly governed space, with clear rules and goals. The higher level of this game presents her voice-activated virtual body, allowing her to freely tell her stories, being detached from her social body, exploring her own ways of "Being- In the World". This project explores the body struggling between objective and phenomenological realms, implementing interactive technology from rigid control to free improvisation. CoPuppet team: Semi Ryu has worked on virtual puppetry projects in collaboration with Stefano Faralli since 2002, and in 2013 she founded CoPuppet to further extend her inquiries into the following topics: 1. Virtual puppetry: relationship of the actual and virtual body. CoPuppet has initiated its first production with the project "Targeting Eyes." Its next project, " VoicingElder: virtual puppetry assisting the elder's life review," will expand the scope of the project to therapeutic interventions and community engagement.
